SECURE 2.0 2026: Key 401(k) Changes Every Plan Sponsor Should Be Ready For

January 1, 2026 is a big milestone for SECURE 2.0. Calendar year plans will see new dollar limits, new disclosure rules, and the run up to the Roth catch up changes for higher earners, all of which affect how your 401(k) operates day to day. On top of that, 2026 is also a critical deadline year to finish SECURE and SECURE 2.0 plan amendments for most qualified plans. The IRS has generally extended amendment dates to December 31, 2026, as long as the plan has been operated in line with the law.

Could Paramount Launch a Hostile Takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery?

The media industry is no stranger to consolidation, but the prospect of a true hostile takeover in today’s environment would be extraordinary. Hostile takeovers were much more prominent in the 80’s and 90’s, well before I started my career in finance. While no such bid has been formally announced as of December 10, 2025, the idea of Paramount Global (backed by Skydance and its investors) attempting to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery against the wishes of its board has been discussed in financial circles. Here’s how such a move could play out, focusing on the three primary hostile takeover tactics: the tender offer, the proxy fight, and the creeping takeover.

AI Disruption Is Coming: Example of Robotaxis

I often discuss inflation driven by excess government spending that outpaces tax revenues, but AI stands out as one of the most powerful deflationary forces, positioned to offset much of this anticipated monetary expansion. A useful illustration is the projection of robotaxis.

Roth vs. Traditional Retirement Accounts? A Practical Guide for Savers

Being only a few years removed from college, my peers and I are entering a crucial moment; it’s both the beginning of saving for retirement & the most critical time to do so. But what is the best way to save? And how is that different for soon-to-be retirees? Let’s explore this nuance and how it remains an ongoing question over the course of your financial plan.

October 2025 Letter

I do not often write letters regarding rocks and metals in the ground, but there is a first time for everything with gold and rare earths in the financial news. I sat down to write the bulk of this letter the weekend of October 11, 2025 with the federal government in a shutdown and after a fascinating down week (namely Friday October 10th) in equity markets. The recent swings that we have seen in the market have had more to do with global supply chain risks and concerns in the sustainability of an AI-thematic boom, rather than with the U.S. government shutting down itself. Nevertheless, the shutdown very much matters and it carries real near-term consequences for many federal workers in our home base of Maryland, and we hope the best for the families that are impacted.

Why Many Local Businesses Are Overpaying for Their 401(k) Plan (And What to Do About It)

If you’re a business owner, CFO, or HR leader in the Charlotte Metro area, or anywhere across the Carolinas, chances are your company sponsors a 401(k) or 403(b) plan. These plans help you attract and retain great employees, but there’s a problem that often goes unnoticed: many businesses pay too much for their retirement plans.
